Native Virginian, Deb earned her BA in history at Washburn University and studied at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody, Wyoming. Her book, The Civil War in Kansas, was released by the History Press in April, 2012, with a foreword by Gen. Richard B. Myers, 15th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. Her book, Kansas Forts and Bases: Sentinels on the Prairie, with co-author Michelle Martin, was released in February, 2013. Deb is a co-founder and serves on the selection committee for the Kansas Hall of Fame. She has appeared in more than a dozen documentaries including American Experience, History Channel, Discovery Channel, PBS, and was a featured speaker on C-SPAN. Deb has been the guest on dozens of talk radio shows around the country. Deb was the host of her own radio show on KMAJ AM in Topeka. She is past president of the Shawnee County Historical Society and is co-president of the Civil War Roundtable of Eastern Kansas. She teaches for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.
Frank Chaffin started his media career at age 15 as a DJ at a Topeka rock ‘n’ roll radio station and has worked on-air and behind the scenes in Radio and Television for more than 50 years. He soon moved up through the ranks and over the years served as Music Director, Program Director, Operations Manager, Sales Executive, Sales Manager, General Manager and Owner at stations in Kansas, Missouri and Iowa. For years he also owned and operated his own successful advertising agency, FCC Advertising. Frank has served the Topeka community in many capacities including President of the Topeka Advertising Federation, Member of Friends of the Topeka Zoo, President of Family Service and Guidance Center, President of the Topeka Youth Project and Vice-President of Washburn University’s Phi Delta Theta Housing Board. Frank brings his natural curiosity, love of the state and a genuine interest in the people and places of Kansas to all his interviews for Around Kansas.
